DESCRIPTION
T small
haylen is taller than most at a height of 5’9. He has a light build, weighing only 140lbs. His long silvery hair flows past his shoulders and is neatly kept in a pony tail. In the front, his unkept hair flows freely down the sides of his head, framing his face and stopping at his jaw line. He has high cheek bones that accentuate almond green eyes which seem to give a sense of the calm before the storm. His lips hold a mischievous grin.

Thaylen wears a dark gray cloak over a black tunic. Beneath it he dons a finely crafted chain shirt, layered by a black short sleeve gray shirt with matching colored pants and boots. At his sides are a pair of exquisitely matched short swords, the scabbard and hilts of which are made of finely crafted ebony. One ivory pommel bears a carving of a wolf’s head while the other is of a demon’s. Both heads hold a sickly glowing transparent black crystal in their maws.

BACKGROUND
T small
haylen lived in the poor district of Caldoranth. He never knew his father and his mother never spoke about him. Thaylen was orphaned at the age of five when his mother succumbed to illness. She quickly passed. Like many other orphaned children growing up on the streets of Caldoranth, Thaylen was taken under the tutelage of a street rogue at a very early age and taught the techniques and secrets of stealth. In Thaylen’s case, his tutor was a particularly greedy miscreant by the name of Veric. Veric used Thaylen’s obvious natural skills and tendencies towards the roguish arts to steal purses and pick the pockets of many of Caldoranth’s unsuspecting citizenry.

One night at the age of ten Thaylen decided to loot a property in the richer district of town. He surveyed the house and it seemed easy enough. He was able to quickly open the lock to the rear door and stealthily worked his way to the second floor. As he entered the study, he heard the bedroom door open directly across the hall. An elderly man dressed in his sleeping garb stepped out. He held a lantern in one hand and a bastard sword in another. “Halt!! Who goes there!?” the man said in a commanding voice. Thaylen froze in place using the shadows of the flickering candlelight to hide himself from the gaze of the elderly man. But to no avail, the man gazed directly at him and quickly moved forward. He was agile for his age and quickly blocked Thaylen from exiting the study door. Thaylen reached for his blades, tumbled and lunged forward. He was not going to get caught, not by the likes of him. Without a thought the elderly man side-stepped and blocked the blade easily with his bastard sword. Thaylen then slashed with the other blade, but was deflected by the lantern. Jabs and slashes all missed their mark as the elderly man was able to block, sidestep and circumvent every attack. Then finally after a precise pommel blow to the back of the head, the world dimmed into darkness for Thaylen.

He awoke in a brightly lit room, with plush furniture and regal paintings hanging on the walls. A wooden bath sat on the corner of the room and steam flowed over the sides of the tub. New clothes were draped on a wooded chair beside the wooden bath. “Am I dead ?” Thaylen asked himself. But a sharp pain in the back of his head reminded him of the scuffle the night before. A knock at the door broke his thoughts and the elderly man stepped into the room. “I’m glad to see you are awake. My name is Calantus. Now there is a bath and new clothes for you. Come down for lunch when you’re done.”

Calantus was the former captain of the guards in Eastern district of Caldoranth. Prior to that, he was a decorated officer in the kings army. In the name of the king he had led troops to many victories in the southern battles against Iscalatharn. He had a beautiful wife name Asil and a young son named Alron whom he deeply loved. Unfortunately a plague that had swept across Caldoranth more than two decades ago claimed them both. He never re-married and plunged him self deep into his work to suppress the pain. Then one night fate smiled upon him once more when a would be thief entered his home. As the flickering light of the candle shone on the boys face he saw a strong resemblance to his son Alron, who had been nearly the same age when he died. Calantus felt as if the gods has given him a second chance to raise his son.

Thaylen was adopted shortly after by Calantus. He was given love and attention that he had never received before. Calantus always encourage him, for he saw the talents that Thaylen possessed. He helped him hone his techniques at fighting and gathering information, techniques which Thaylen adopted quickly. Thaylen became part of the elite group called the Obsidian Guard. The Obsidian Guard works behind the seen for the king in the city of Caldoranth. There duties consist of infiltration of underground black markets, gathering information, discreetly guarding nobles on diplomatic missions where show of arms is frown upon, and capturing or dispatching crime lords and enemy’s of the state. That to name a few. He soon became known as Thaylen Twin blade due to his signature twin weapons, one of Cold Iron and the other Silver. Thaylen was quite proficient, rising in the ranks quickly and soon was task with secret missions for the Crown. This achievements at such a young age made his adopted father extremely proud.
